Latest News

I know it's been a while since I've posted on the blog. I was busy with kidding season, then Pesach, then the end of my semester....and well, it's time that I wrote.

We had a lot of beautiful babies born here this year. Zlatah was a trooper and had four baby girls, although one was a stillborn. Sadly, one of her other daughters, Simcha, got a nasty virus and died after being about a month old. We were all saddened by her passing. Zlatah's remaining sisters, Adara and Chodesha are growing up big and strong and are both very beautiful, sweet, and friendly little girls. We adore these doelings and think that they'll make an excellent addition to our herd. They are Rico's daughters.

Heidi had a little doeling who we named Menucha, as she was born on Shabbos (our Sabbath). She's growing up big and strong. She's Chocolate Truffles' daughter. We're thinking of breeding her again this year to either another Saanen or to Truffles again. We're hoping that when we tame Menucha down a little she'll be as steady a doe as her mother.

Zelda had a buckling and a doeling and both are doing very well and growing fast. Both the buckling, Mordechai, and the doeling, Hadassa, are fairly friendly and will come over if they think you have something good for them to eat. We hope to see them settle down more and we believe that Hadassa will be a lovely milker like her mother and that Mordechai will throw lovely kids. They are Chocolate Truffles' kids.

Treasure had two little bucklings. Chad Gad Yah and Shimshon are handsome as could be and sweet as anything. We love these little boys. We're looking forward to seeing what kind of bucks they make. They are Rico's sons.

Tory kidded recently and had a sweet little buckling, Gemini, and a doeling, Sivan. Both are gorgeous and growing up quick as a blink. They will both be welcome additions to our herd. They are Chocolate Truffles' kids. Good old Tory is getting on in years, so we think this will be her last time breeding for us. She had a very difficult labor and I had to assist; even after all that she went down and we didn't know if she'd make it. Thanks to my mother's homeopathic remedies, Tory got back up and has been her wonderful ornery self since.

Then, of course, there's Sheep One and Sheep Two.  Sheep One had a difficult birth and almost died...we lost the little lamb, too. :( In fact, we're going to have to use her as mutton for the High Holidays, because she can't be bred again. Sheep Two, however had a little ewe lamb. Poor Sheep Two didn't know what to do with her, so I took the lamb and bottle-fed her. I milked her mother as long as I could for the milk, too. We named her Matana (gift), since we lost the other lamb and we almost lost her, too. Matana is now a very sweet lamb that follows my son and I around, well, like a lamb!

So that's the births of the year. Hopefully I'll update again soon, 'cause we've bought a couple of new goats and breeding season is upon us again. Already.
